David Foster Wallace

He was the greatest writer of footnotes, asides and annotations in the English language. And he's 4 years younger than Ty.

And yet that pompous arse Waters persists, likely to 100.

Boy, that's a rude shock.
Silly me -- I thought this news belonged on the Books board.

I'll never forget his discourse comparing Hawaii Five-O, and its hero as the Man of Action, with Hill Street Blues, and its hero as the Man of Reaction. He then postulated that the next big cop series would feature a Man of Inaction -- perfectly predicting, IMHO, the short-lived series Brooklyn South.

I've heard that Black Boy was his best, but I've never read any of it.

I prefer Native Son, though I confess that I never did get all the flying pig imagery.

How I wish you were here

LONDON - Richard Wright, a founding member of the rock group Pink Floyd, died Monday. He was 65.

Pink Floyd's spokesman Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist, said Wright died after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. He says the band member's family did not want to give more details about his death.

Bummer.

Nicely done. Maybe you could post something about David Foster Wallace? He died, you know.

I had lunch today with a half-dozen people, none of whom had heard of David Foster Wallace.

Sad, sad, sad.

You didn't listen to the footnotes in the conversation. They referenced him all over those.

I hire factotums, not minions. Minions are harder to fire.

I don't think so. They were mostly talking about the Bobs Denver and Newhart.
