Speaking of which, this column by TNC on the issue we've been discussing is, um, pleasurable.

Personal blog is blogger. Could not be easier, and free.
Professional blog is wordpress. Fine, but not free and fewer features than blogger.

Str8outtavannuys and I never really believed that he was , but he did say he was. I'm totally wonking and this has probably been covered already.
I will mention that I'm glad you all have such great memories, because much of the ppnyc stuff had drifted to haze for me (but not the fact that I'm the one who outted her as a secretary) and it's been a fun stroll down memory lane. Otoh the bullying thread must die already. If taxwonk wonks it up again, please bully him into submission.

This is a good piece.
What is so annoying about stances by white people like the one Sebby is taking is that everyone knows that not all negative behavior is motivated by race. The last piece outlined how subconscious issues may flavor one's interpretations of an action that can be seen by some to be racist and by others to be completely innocuous. This piece by Coates outlines how people who do racist things seem to be able to completely divorce those actions from the fact that they are the product of racism. What makes Sebby's comments so fucking irritating is the fact that racism has gone way underground--whether that means people hide and deny their racism or don't exactly understand when their actions are influenced by a subconscious racism, it doesn't matter. It gives white people all the power to completely fucking deny it and to point fingers at minorities and say, "You fucking see it everywhere. Sure it exists here and there (although I never see it), but you think every bad thing that happens to you is the product of racism."
The simple fact is, I'd say that as a person who has actually experienced racism, I sure as hell know it when I see it. I may be incorrect sometimes, but I damn well know I'm better at detecting it than fucking Sebby. But because of the new nature of racism, I'm the one who has to jump through fucking hoops to get someone who isn't a minority to acknowledge it.

Everyone knows the worst racism is the racism of being falsely accused of racism , which every white person can easily identify every time.
