Funny story. I went to see a friend's band and I started talking to some Irish lass with a similar look and accent. A few drinks in I ask her to say that line.

My friend comes off stage he says "so you met my girlfriend...."
 | Whoops - that's awkward. I suspect that she knew exactly what was going on, too. Hope your friend has a sense of humor about this sort of thing. |

I'm proud of you, Hank. It takes a special courage to criticize the dying wishes of children with cancer.
 | Come on. You need to stop. If we can't make fun of the dying wishes of kids with cancer, what's the point of this board?

Seriously, this reminds me of the ridiculous response 13 years ago to a yo momma joke by someone whose mom died years prior. Hank's joke is more about himself and his Moth achievements that absolutely no one cares about than the kid with cancer. Lighten up, er, Francis.

 | Um.... the post you are responding to is a week old. You should be blaming everyone else for not posting anything interesting in the past week.

That said, if I can't make fun of Hank, what's the point of this board? (And, seriously, I don't get the Moth connection -- I just thought Hank was being kind of a dick. If there was some connection to a story I didn't know, then maybe he wasn't being a dick this time.)

I figured his crude joke was a jump-off point for a joke about his Moth skills, which he knows no one cares about.

Putin probably pushed him to stay on long enough to prevent reawarding the 2018 cup. I wonder what the odds are on Qatar actually hosting - must have dropped to even money or so.

 | I read somewhere that UEFA was meeting this week and were seriously considering pulling out of FIFA if he stayed on. The world cup in Russia without Europe wouldn't be that much of a World Cup.

Surprised to read France and Spain voted for Blatter. Although perhaps that's because they lost Platini and Figo as candidates and realized that a vote for Ali meant new leadership that would stay, whereas Blatter might be deposed in just this way, putting Figo and Platini back in the mix for leadership.

Were the votes against Blatter largely from Europe, or was it mixed?

The issue is, every country, no matter the size, receives the same (i) number of votes and (ii) share of profits from FIFA. If Montserrat has the same authority and receives the same funds as the US, they are going to vote for the guy who keeps it that way. John Oliver did a good job with this the second time he went after FIFA (this past Sunday).

TM | Thanks for this -- I have not seen that one yet. Speaking of Oliver, I seriously think he has one of the best shows on television right now.
