The Botanist. From Islay. Crisp, clean, notable botanicals but still simple; the best.

Ransom. A dark and musky gin. Old style.

Pymouth, mentioned above by Not Bob, is a classic.

I can't recommend Hendrick's; I just think the cucumber overpowers everything. I'm not a fan of Greenhook from Brooklyn, or Leopold's, but others whose opinion I respect enjoy them.

Gin and tonics are apparently the national cocktail of Spain, and I've tried using bitters, coriander, and other stuff, like our Spanish friends do, but I always come back to gin, tonic, and a little lime. Summer refreshment with a nice kick.
 | Boodles? I completely agree on Hendricks.

But given a choice, I'd usually chose something else altogether.

Saki anyone?

And this thing about one type of booze being worse for a hangover than another is kinda a teenage myth. Also, it is possible to have a drink or two and not have a hangover, ya know? If you practice, maybe even three or four. |

The next day have 6 or 7 blended scotch drinks. Single malt will give you a much worse hangover. As to vodka/gin, the pain comes from ingrediants beyond the alcohol. Vodka is typically cleaner, gin has the flavoring in it.

 | You have read Hank's posts. You have (tried) to interact with him. What are you possibly thinking about here?

This isn't about you and me having a drink or two or three or four. This isn't about a few tweets on a favorite brew or threatening Wonk with a Martini or having a wee dram of single malt. We aren't talking about normal human consumption habits.

Hank's focus on booze is sustained, fully committed, and well beyond what you or I will ever understand. That's why he has two modes of crazy: the mode merely influenced by the long-term damage the stuff has done to his brain (as well as the hangover he's then experiencing), and the mode where he's totally in the bag.

And, as for vodka, I had a horrible experience with it when I was a callow youth, and had a Skinnerish aversion to it for decades. It is only in the last year or so that I can drink it without gagging.

As for hangovers, it's been a while since I had one (knock wood), but the last one was caused by too many mojitos. Although I do know people who have more hangovers (when drinking the same amount) from x than with y, I am not one of them. |

 | See, that's what he wants you to think, and then he goes and posts amateur stuff about how a gin hangover is worse than a vodka hangover. If he really had the kind of passion he tries to sell us, he wouldn't be keeping such close track for what he drank last night. |

You've met him, right? What else could be the cause?
