In some mens' rooms -- the urinals are at the far end, or in a separate area -- which would eliminate the possibility. On the whole, however, I'd say such "exposure" is harmless if it is inadvertent and just in passing. You must recall that every little girl in America will almost certainly have seen her father peeing by the time she is 2. [Unless, of course, the father is never, ever left in charge of the little darling.]

Really?! I never saw my dad pee. Or else I did and I have surpressed the memory. So you pee with the door open while watching kids? This is odd to me.

Don't you think it is different when you see your dad peeing than when you see some strange man peeing?

What if the dad was watching a 1 year old that could crawl? Would you want him to shut the door to the bathroom or keep it open so he could hear the kid in case something happened quickly?

I agree that most have probably seen their dad peeing, if for no other reason than because the dad may forget to lock the door and little kids think nothing of just walking into a bathroom without knocking.

Ahmmmm.........

Where I live men face a wall when urinating. Typically a man would not expose his penis until facing a wall. I have never seen a man expose penis with his back towards the urinal, and twirl into position. Similarly, the penis is reinserted before the man turms away.

I must admit the above observations are based upon the furtive glances I allow myself of my urinary companions, but if my observations are accurate, I do not see the harm is briskly guiding one's daughter pass a row of urinals back to a stall.

edited to add: the above holds true, by the way, during times I've traveled to other parts of the United States, and to international airport bathrooms.

Do you ask them to face a particular wall, or can they just use the nearest one? I'm sure your wife has a preference.

At this juncture, I'd like to take back the things I said last night about the level of discourse on this board.

Bilmore & Slave: To respond to bilmore's last PM, I think you both misapprehend the third part of Professor Ignatz's critique, at least with regard to the baroque pieces. If you consider the source cited in the footnote that Slave mentioned, I think you will see that he looked to both American and European archival materials, making his conclusions that much more sound.

If Daddy is left alone to watch toddler daughter, Daddy should not be leaving such daughter unsupervised in other rooms while he disappers behind closed door.

But some Daddys sit down when their toddler daughters are around out of modesty.

This really is not a discussion for this Board.

Let's also clarify that I am only talking about my own kid(s).

When you have a child who can crawl -- or, even more to the point, toddle around -- you let them out of your sight at their peril. It inevitably happens to some extent, but it is dangerous -- particularly when they are 12-18 months old and thus can move quickly and climb up on furniture, but aren't all that stable and don't pay attention to little things like being on the edge of a seat -- or near the arm of a chair -- well off the ground.

The precise answer to your question is "No." But -- if I'm in charge and no one else is around to watch them -- they will come into the bathroom with me.

I expect this practice to stop at right about the time I can trust them not to die or be injured when not watched like a hawk at every moment. That, or age 12, whichever comes first.

Yes. But the practicality of the situation is that the child _must_ use the bathroom -- and that you can hustle them through the "danger zone" very quickly.

Jobless Rate Declined Again in November, to 5.9%
By KENNETH N. GILPIN

Published: December 5, 2003

The nation's unemployment rate ticked down in November, the Labor Department reported today, but employers added just 57,000 jobs, far less than Wall Street's expectations.

But even though the rate of job creation is far below what might normally be expected two years into an economic expansion, analysts said the news in today's figures was not uniformly bad.
I only had 100 level econ courses, but the unemployment rate going down is good news isn't it?
the "not uniformly bad" means to the Democrats, because there weren't as many new jobs as someone had hoped, leaving them some last shred to bitch about?
