No one knows. It’s clearly a loose model. But around these parts, people joke about having been sick and testing negative, or being surprised at not having been sick and testing positive for antibodies.
The mentality is, if you feel like shit for a bit, avoid people for 10-14 days. If you feel terribly bad, see a doc. Tests are annoying and slow, so most are just doing the NY thing of avoiding if they suspect illness.
ETA: Eastern side of this state is awash in it. NY folks have been flooding into here. Hospitals are doing fine. Schools are entirely remote. God bless Philly proper’s densest areas, but the rest of the state seems to be handling it well.

Not surprisingly, deaths are disproportionately among the old (and other vulnerable populations) almost everywhere. But even if you're ready to dismiss 2/3 of the deaths as "eh, it's just Mom", Sweden is still a shitshow worse than most other shitshows. And that 5-9 month median remaining life - what bullshit is that? There is virtually no age at which remaining life is that short. Look at an actuarial table. Future life expectancy doesn't get that short until you are well past 100 years old. https://www.ssa.gov/oact/STATS/table4c6.html(But now I see what you did - that article is written by a sociologist - e.g., someone with no relevant expertise and little understanding of either stats or healthcare).
And besides the deaths, this is a disease that leaves many of those who contract it with lifelong impairments that will have social and personal costs. The toll will be felt for several decades.

That's the real issue. I know personally about a dozen people who have had it. About half have had symptoms more than 12 weeks, and very few are back to 100 percent. It's a pretty debilitating disease. The respiratory issues later are pretty bad, and the cardiac are to be seen. Most are in their 30s and 40s, some in their 20s.
We are getting better at treating it, though. Hospitalization length of stay is down, and we're seeing more people walk away. But the death rate is still higher than in March, April, May.
Death is definitely not the only long term issue with this.

We're ok here in Houston, but it's going to be really, really bad tomorrow morning 75 to 100 miles east of us.
We were really scared when we went to bed last night but it shifted.
We'll get hit a little, but nothing like Pt. Arthur, Beaumont and Lake Charles. It's horrible.

And the bottom line is we do not know what the long term effects are from getting it once. Even if you get a clean bill of health after the first bout, let's say CXR is back to clear and no inflamatory markers, we do not know the underlying long-term effects and whether any antibodies can prevent you from getting it again even if you take every possibe precaution.
At my office, it was actually one of those superspreader locations where at least one entire floor got it. Now, everyone is being encouraged to work back in the office (face time or your work doesn't count) where mask usage in common areas is right around 0% and where the air conditioning doesn't work.

You need to toughen up a bit. You wouldn’t have seen Sebastian’s grandmother whining like this. Stiff upper lip, old chap. Also, Warren Zevon had some witty lyrics about the inevitability of death that might give you some much-needed perspective on the situation.

Please, you first. You may need to go into the office, I don't.

This is not true. Over the last 14 days they've had over 3000 cases, Norway under 900. Sure, it looks like their curve has taken a steep dive, but because it was such an incredible shitshow, their infection rate is still above their neighbor (which acted sensibly, not moronically).
Sure, look back in a year and see afterwards whether there was some benefit from the shitshow. But you can't demonstrate any benefit today.

Sadly, the people I know best who definitely had it got it early before we had much skill treating it and died. Just today I was being asked for a recommendation for a PR person and had to check myself because my favorite PR guy died.
That is the product of Boston being hit early on and then locking down like our life depended on it. I really can't figure out why others can't learn from that experience. Or rather, why others choose to be willfully idiotic and refuse to learn from that experience.

Zevon did whine a bit. "Poor Poor Pitiful Me."

Re: Objectively intelligent.
Just stumbled across this pair of quotes:
Quote:
Andrew Sullivan (2018): “Ta-Nehisi and I... there was a civility about it, an actual generosity of spirit, that transcended the boundaries of race and background.... Our engagement with each other and our readerships was a crackling and productive one... before Twitter swallowed blogging, before identity politics became completely nonnegotiable, before we degenerated into these tribal swarms of snark and loathing...”
Ta-Nehisi Coates (2018): “I got incredibly used to learning from people... quite good at their craft, who I felt, and pardon my language, were f***ing racist. And that was just the way the world was. I didn’t really have the luxury of having teachers who I necessarily felt, you know, saw me completely as a human being.... Me arguing with Andrew Sullivan about whether black people are genetically disposed to be dumber than white people. I actually had to take this seriously, you understand? I couldn’t speak... to Andrew on the blog the way I would speak to my wife about what Andrew said on the blog in the morning when it was just us...”

Ah, but the people who made the job their lives, who get off on being in charge and walking around seeing people who are on some level working for them -- have you no sympathy for them? Where will they find fulfillment? Where will they find human interaction of the controlling sort they desire? Where will those 5'7 nebbishes be respected but in the halls of the office? This out-of-office working situation is really hard on those people who identify themselves by what they do. If you refuse to pay them fealty by appearing, they question their importance.
Face time isn't about you, you selfish prick. It's about gratifying management with the delusion that you'd still come into the office and respect them if you won the lottery tomorrow... Allowing them to believe you'd spend even a second in their company if not for the commercial endeavor in which you are both engaged.
Occasionally, there's a story about some worker winning or inheriting a ton of money and telling her boss to fuck off while resigning. This is misguided. One should simply leave. Never resign. Never take a call from the office. Just leave. This sends the proper message on how much one cares about management, the endeavor, the company, the system. Just walk away.
