It's Alderaan, and it was destroyed not by Darth Vader, but rather by Grand Moth Tarkin. Vader was just standing there.
Boston fans will do well to remember that Tarkin met his doom when his aide suggested the preparation of his escape vessel after analyzing the Rebel attack but Tarkin dismissed him noting it was his finest hour. The Death Star exploded about 30 seconds later. So if Steinbrenner says something about the Yankee's moment of victory, I'd run, not walk to the nearest exit of Yankee stadium.

My mantra is "I'm a lawyer; I don't do numbers."
Actually I hadn't paid attention to how much the Twins increased their payroll the last 2 years. In 2001, the Twins payroll was $24MM and ARod's salary was $22MM. So it wasn't actually more than their payroll but close enough for government work.
Your point about small market teams being mad after having a good year and having to subsidize the Mets isn't all that likely. After a good year the Twins' attendance goes up pretty dramatically but they are not likely ever going to have a local TV contract lucrative enough to have to share revenue with anyone but the Expos, the Brewers or the Royals unless Carl Pohlad turns his new cable sports station into a superstation ala Ted Turner.

Is it? The Twins pulled in over two million in 1987, 3 million in 1988 and 2.2 million in 1989, beating the league average each year (they beat the league average again in 1992). They won the Series in '87 and '91. So, it's not a stretch to assume that they would outdraw some bigger market teams if they made a serious run at the Series or won it (especially in the hypo under which we are currently working). If the Mets drop to the cellar, they would most likely still earn more (better tv contracts, etc.), but it's not that big a jump.
But let's move on to something interesting since we're living in fantasy land, because there ain't gonna be extensive revenue sharing or a salary cap in baseball.

Ewen McGregor maybe when he gets a little older. He's got the suave thing down.

Colin Firth ain't Bond material.
Colin Farrell could be, but he's not old enough looking. MacGregor is an interesting choice. He's a terrific actor, and I've not doubt he could play the part perfectly, but I don't know if he can stand up to his forebears as far as screen presence goes.

on 1), yes, but on a much higher base. People would be laughing at the yankees if they had agreed to take on the full contract, less a couple million (union demand to sox), or even four million/year (sox final proposal). The Yankees got A-rod for $15-$17m/year. That's a lot more attractive than 23-25m/year.
and on 2), yes, and that's why the yankees were in a position to take on even what they did. I wish manny were a baller.

I don't know if this is a spoiler or not. If you think it is, stop reading.
They sucked. Bad. The one with the space in her teeth and the big tits was ok. That's about it. The last one, crouching tiger, hidden dragon was bearable. The brothers, Moses and Jesus - SUCKED. Big goofy football guy - SUCKED. Lesbian - SUCKED! Blonde woman - SUCKED.
Bring back She Bangs guy!

I believe they still make an awful lot of money worldwide.
I watched them up through the last one with Halle Berry, but I won't watch any more because they're getting really absurd. Even though Bond is effectively a superhero of sorts, the stunts are just too unbelievable. Also, the movies used to be entertaining because they were well acted and stylishly filmed. Now, its just one ridiculous action scene to the next, like some sort of high brow Vin Deisel* garbage.
*How did a guy who seemed to be talented (See: Boiler Room) collapse into the shlock artist he's become? I'm glad to see him make money, but he's morphing into a Stallone-ish figure. He's way overdue for a real film where he actually acts.

Baseball is so utterly fucked. The more I read, the more I realize why I haven't watched a regular season game since Eddie Murray was the usual home run leader.
Gimme the 86 Mets, 91 Phillies and the 79 Pirates. And give Steinbrenner anal cancer.
It might as well be hockey.

That show needs the Old Yeller treatment badly. I was shocked when the "star" (unremarkable young guy with Strokes haircut) appeared on Jon Stewart recently and said the show was still on the air.
And if they've an extra bullet left after putting down ER, please put down Friends. That wedding episode was mailed in so badly you could almost feel the "hey, lets wrap this take up, I've got an appointment" attitude on the set. Scrap the last five episodes and replace them with Apprentice reruns. I can't get enough of the Donald's combover. ts fucking mesmerizing. I've paused my TiVo from every angle and still I cannot determine where the hairline startsor ends. Its as though he has cotton candy swirled about his head.
