For my part, I am glad to know that the Powell Doctrine, while having been thoroughly discredited as a tool of statecraft, still finds its highest and best use with regard to backyard pests of Minnesota.

Cite, please. We devote a smaller percentage of our GDP to foreign aid than almost every other industrialized country.
"At the moment, the United States is the world’s second-largest foreign aid donor in absolute terms after Japan, but ranks 22 out of 22 major industrial nations when assistance is measured as a percentage of GDP." Link.

That article makes bold claims and provides nothing to back it up. Where do they get their data to support their claims? I don't know because they don't say.
Moreover, what are they saying qualifies as "foriegn aid"? I don't know because they don't say.
All the money we spent invading and rebuilding Iraq is foriegn aid. That is money we are spending to free an oppressed people from tyranny and to make the world safer. Are they counting that as foreign aid? I don't know because they don't say.
Please don't insult my intelligence by citing to an article like that. Bare conclusions prove nothing. Where is the beef?

Even so, I still think bilmore's action rash. bilmore, if you had simply kept away from the bees for a few months, wouldn't these freezing days Flowers been complaining of killed the bees? Why couldn't you wait it out? did you have some fear of increased stinging in the immediate future?

If your gift to her was that you viewed the porno and then jerked off and then no longer needed to put her through the torment of having sex with you, then yes, you can.

I usually smoke 'em before I go in for the kill. It's not very hard, just requires a little patience and a bit of preparation.

You're absolutely right, Hank! Those bees weren't an imminent threat to Bilmore! And he left the hose running, so now his backyard's a quagmire!

I wasn't analogizing to Iraq. I was making social commentary on the realities of marriage.

Nice try, SAM, but words mean something. If you reread the Parable of the Bees, you will notice bilmore never used the words "imminent" or "immediate." Rather, the threat from the bees was only "periodic."
Nevertheless, this warning of a "periodic" appears to be enough to have whipped the relevant constituency into a bee-hosing frenzy.

I know Hank is charging that Bilmore lied, but let's put this in perspective.
Bilmore did indicate before hand that the bees were likely to sting, but I don't think he used the word "imminent". And perhaps he did disregard taking normal precautions in his haste to get rid of the bees.
Now, the bees have only stung about 600 or so of his fellow Americans, and the running hose does mean his wife won't be able to take a shower, but other than that, what's the harm?
So even if he may have mis-stated a few things here and there, I don't think he really lied. And even with all those people being stung because he didn't use the smoker, aren't you glad the bees are gone?
What's that you say? The queen bee is setting up shop on your property...

I am surprised that you don't also fault Bilmore for not building a coalition of his neighbors and getting their consent before he got rid of the bee's nest.
