I completely missed this completely until it was referenced at a conversation between Jonathan Lethem and Greil Marcus I attended tonight. Wow.

There is a silver lining: there will be good movies on free TV for a month or two.

last night i saw Casablanca for the first time on disc. I've seen it, but always on commercial TV, and could never figure the "best movie" arguments.
Commercial TV cut out all of the atmosphere setting scenes, and the street scenes and all the crime in the bar that wasn't directly tied into the story. i may not watch good movies on TV anymore.

Eddie Brinkman. Eddie was the shortstop on the 1972 Tigers. They clinch the division and the news cameras come in the locker room. They interview Eddie on live TV.
Newsguy: "Eddie, which players were the main reason the tigers won?"
EB: "It was the team," (pause, take swig on champagne) "the whole fucking team."
Today he'd get fined.
