She went to junior high in Vancouver, WA, just across the river. They told some Vancouver girl jokes during the show.

Lyle Lovett has an amazing guy in his Big Band who plays an awesome cello. Lyle wasn't bad either. Very personable, great songs, wonderful band, sounded great.

John Prine looks really, really old, but he was excellent. We just sat back and listened.

Robert Earl Keen was excellent, and had a lot of fun with the crowd.

Keane was sort of annoying, though we weren't paying that much attention to them until we recognized a song, agreed that whatever 80s band they were trying to be was better, and then went back to ignoring them.

We were late to see Split Lip Rayfield, but we got in to see Buddy Guy who, despite the heat, put on a great show.

Robert Randolph had a lot of technical problems (guitars not working, microphones not working), but the stuff he played was phenomenal. He's probably as good on the drums as he is on the guitar, and his enthusiasm and energy are unbelievable. We thought it was a shame that there were so many technical problems because that part of the show really needed to be highlighted.

I heard a Jet song and realized who they were. Had no clue before.

Drive By Truckers were great, as expected, though their set wasn't too different from Lollapalooza. Rorky Erickson would have been great had he not been in the worst part of the dust bowl. We had to leave because we couldn't breathe.

Oasis was very, very loud. We could hear them all the way back to our car.

The best day was Sunday. We didn't get in the gates in time to hear Rachael Yamagata (though we heard her on the walk in), though we got there in time to hear all of Rilo Keily's set. For some reason, I thought they were older. Their lead singer sounds too world-weary to be as young as she looked. Great, though short by about 15 minute set. That meant, though, that we could hear the end of the Brave Combo and their awesome rendition of the Hokey Pokey. We hung around in the gospel tent to hide from the sun, though not the dust, (this is when we heard it was 104 out there), and heard a local gospely singer named Ruthie Foster, who was excellent, as was her lead guitarist.

We cut that set short to head over for a spot at the Arcade Fire. Word of mouth has certainly spread on these guys, and I can't imagine that anyone was listening to Jason Mraz on the other stage. They continue to be an excellent, if somewhat indescribable band. It's a chaotic live show that somehow works, and the set was as good if not better than Robert Randolph in pure energy, great music, and an engaging performance. If you have an opportunity to see them, do it. (Chicago people, this means you on Wednesday night, Minneapolis people, Thursday night.)

Bob Mould was fantastic, and he looked great, though we left a little early to muscle our way closer in to see Wilco. I love Wilco. I was looking forward to their set all weekend and they didn't really disappoint. They mainly focused on material from A Ghost is Born and YHF, though there were songs from Summerteeth and Being There. The new guitarist is excellent, Jeff Tweedy was awesome, and I was in a very happy place for an hour and 15 minutes while listening to them.

We heard most of the Tortise set while we were in the Waterloo tent buying music, and they were very good, though the dust was so bad in the tent it was hard to see, breathe or concentrate on anything.

There were a lot of people coming in just to see Coldplay as we were leaving the festival. We felt sorry for them, because they missed some really good music.

Because of the heat and dust and related self-preservation instincts, we didn't see as many sets as we could have, but what we saw was totally worth the havoc wrought on our lungs and skin and clothes.

The weather gods owe me big time, though.

You have a true gift in being able to suck all of the fun and excitement out of something as fun and exciting as going to a professional football game.

And in unrealted news,i have already received my box of eight discontinued candles from Barneys. The Barneys guy also tossed in the biggest bag of swag samples I have ever seen. And some of them arent even samples, full on Stila Lipsticks, NARS mascara, Goetz and whoever body wash (I sued their eucalyptus washa nd peppermint scrub, the best) which I have only seen carried at my spa here. There is so much shit in this bag (which is also really cute) that I havent had a chance to go through it. Barneys rocks. Especially when you buy eight 45 buck candles.
