A friend of mine triggered an audit by going to Dartmouth for an MBA and leaving a lucrative real estate job. The drop in income apparently triggered an audit. Bad news is, that it was a couple of days of painstaking review of her taxes and receipts. Good news is that she got a refund.
Legit question - is deferred comp still a crap shoot? Or is it worth doing?

Did she prepare her own taxes or pay someone to do it?

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Barely in the news
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A boy who testified that Michael Jackson molested his brother acknowledged under cross-examination Tuesday that the pop star didn't show him a sex magazine that the prosecution introduced into evidence. The witness also said he lied under oath in a separate civil lawsuit.
Jackson attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. showed the 14-year-old witness the copy of Barely Legal magazine dated August 2003.

Silly ass. RP's a clean girl. She has no taint; she's fresh as a daisy.

I'm pretty sure she had someone do it while she was in real estate, but while she was in school and had no income, she probably did it herself. Does that make a difference?

Listen, I'm just saying that something as important as my taxes is not going to be done by me, a person who avoids anything tax related if at all possible. Knowing how much I hate taxes, I'm sure that I'd miss something - why risk it? It's not that much to know that someone who knows what the hell they're doing (or holds himself out as someone who knows what the hell he's doing) instead of fucking up several weekends trying to do it myself?

I was going to post the disgusting ass-fucking Best of Craigslist* posting that I read yesterday in response to this, but I am too lazy to find it again. You should all be relieved. Graphic sebbesque badness.
*Yes, Ty, it is your fault.

I did my taxes in 1.5 hours. Was I supposed to take several weekends doing them?

Mainstream Music Post
I was very very late on the bandwagon buying Green Day's "American Idiot." If any of y'all have made the same mistake, rectify it immediately! It is really really really fucking good. If you're not crazy about the title track or the ludicrously overplayed "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" song, don't worry. The five part "Jesus of Suburbia" suite is fantastic. "Holiday" is brilliant. Just about the best mix of killer hooks and interesting lyrics I've ever heard. Billie Joe has finally found the perfect use for his very distinctive voice. The more you listen to this album, the better it gets.

How can you write "why risk it?" and "someone ... who holds himself out as someone who knows what the hell he's doing" in the same argument and not have your head explode?
It's one thing if you say it's worth the cost to avoid a task you hate, but it's pretty flawed to say you're minimizing risk by doing so.
