Alright, easy. Seriously. I'm not assuming that you don't know what you are doing. There are plently of really good female poker players, and I know women (like my cousin, who has dabbled professionally and regularly wins big pots in $100-200 games because people think that she is clueless) who are fucking amazing poker players. I'm saying that there are novel ways that people can end up with winning hands, that you might not always expect it, and that I try to be careful of and take advantage of those kinds of plays. The risks of doing them in $9-$18 games aren't as great as they are in no-limit or higher limit.
Ok, carry on.

IT was so interesting to read about how badly the baseball establishment does at accurately valuing assets (players). It's a great business book, really, it just happens to be about baseball. And I love that the afterword show how much of a moron Joe Morgan is.

I knew Joe Morgan was a moron well before Moneyball. Nice guy, but painfully narrowminded baseball-wise.

I took the Economics of Sports in college. Mainly in an attempt to avoid all unnecessary micro courses. Did well on the curve. Might have had a thing or two to do with the number of football players who signed up. As I recall, at the time (which was a long time ago, so let's not go there) MLB economics were pretty fucked up, even in light of collective bargaining, and the players were not getting even close to what they were earning for the owners.
I've give it a read if you promise it is nothing like the baseball, baseball, baseball thread here.

I am a medium but not huge baseball fan, and I loved it. I can see someone who has almost no interest in baseball liking it. The writing is really good and there is a lot of interesting biographical and historical stuff about Billy Beane and the minor leauge baseball system. It also speaks highly of Harvard and Yale, so str8 and Hank would love it.
eta Plus I had all kinds of fantasies while I was reading it about the author fucking Tabita Soren.

You've never gambled a little when pre-flop betting is low on a hand like 2-6? This happens all the time, and this is how you can win monster pots if you read well and can bet wisely and deceptively. I could see if srt8 was betting his Kings with Ace kicker, but he wasn't. That's what is strange to me. Raise or fold. Sitting around checking and calling is telling.

Just out of curiosity, how does one "read well" when playing on a computer? This, along with the fact that I play at least as much for social interaction as to win, is what's kept me out of online poker.

Again. General comment. I have no idea how you play against women. I was just mentioning something that works to my advantage.
Though I generally agree with your recent assessment elsewhere that you sometimes have a hard time pulling off Not Condescending. Must be a related problem to str8 difficulty pulling off Not Self Important.
I should probably just stop posting until tomorrow. I could use a Friday.

I don't play for money online for that very reason (along with the very real risk of collusion). str8 was at a card club.

My bad. I thought he was talking about playing online. I really miss my old monthly poker game.
