I've been called many things, but never lazy. Well, that one time by Mrs. Finch, but we'd been drinking a lot and I was tired. But I digress.

Ty, your references sucked. Deal with it.

Right. The reason I don't like you is because you wouldn't give me a job. That must be it.

I thought it was Wilson Sonsini, but it was you.

Agreed. And I've successfully argued against candidates for my group based on poorly-proofed writing samples. I don't care so much about the writing style (as long as it's not impenetrable) but I just want to make sure they weren't too lazy to read through it and make sure it makes sense and is properly organized. if they can form an argument without showing that they haven't mastered cut and paste and spell check functions, and marginal knowledge of hte blue book, I'm happy. Unfortunately, that appears to be a tall order.

Oh, God, yes. We're talking about a totally outrageous paradigm.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

The people hiring you will be arrogant pricks who probably won't look at your samples- if they do they will only see stuff they find negative. Someone said articles- list them but only provide if asked.

You will need to sell yourself by gab to get the job. The paper only distracts, or screws you.
They asked.

And I've only been out 2+ years.

Am I whiffing or is this the biggest pot kettle black ever?

Do you have anything you can use from work and redact? If you don't already know what length they are looking for, you could call and tell them you have two things that you are looking at to redact, and one is longer and one is shorter, and ask which they would prefer. If part of the problem is that there are very few things you have done on your own, you could include a note saying that your group works collaboratively (in a team environment) (not like lone wolves) (in the forest) and you picked an item to which you felt you had made a very significant contribution, or something.

Even if they (recruiting) ask for it, they (lawyers) may not read it.\

And spell grammar correctly and don't split any infinitives.

What type of writing sample is the most effective? I've only had one lawyer job and I clerked here as a 3L...so I've never given it that much thought.

Do people even read this shit? My eyes glaze over reading my own memos/briefs...
Whatever it is, make it short. I'm reading some letter from an adversary right now and its three pages... to a judge. I feel sorry for the judge, who'll have to pretend he read this gibberish.

Even a long winded fuck like me knows that when it counts, make your fucking point and get out.

On an unrelated note to COltrane's recent lay off

ONe of my elementary school friends is getting married this weekend. He has lots of tattoos and plays in bands and taught me to skate board. When Mr. Bunny met him at the engagement party, his response was "wow, you really do have burn out friends, you weren't jsut making it up"

So, Burnout's best friend and best man is my *first crush* who I haven't seen since he quit at the local starbucks (i had a crush on him when he was still in high school) and moved to Vermont where he was diangosed with some mental illness, lived in a half way house and now is a professional firefighter and youth counselor for troubled teens. Mr. Bunny's response to this (and I'm not even sure he know what irony is) "you sure can pick 'em bunny"

So, my question to you is this: in this fairly intimate wedding (less that 100 people) how much time is appropriate to go spend with the love of my life, as proclaimed at the age of 14. We were friends and used to hang out a bit. Do I spend time talking to him, or just the "hello, how are you"

That's not very nice, considering that Hank was willing to write what you could only hint at with your request for "advice."

I would take him in the kitchen and fuck him, but that's just me.
