I have to respectfully disagree. I think the debt/income ratio trumps late payments these days, considerably so. It may not "technically" trump it, but in the current market, where lenders are giving money away, most lenders are more focused on the ratio.
Words to live by.

What are you talking about? Selling off bad debt is part of a lender's business, but the riskier the debt sold, the less made. And often, they are selling off bad debt at a loss. You act like they're saying, "Hey, it's no sweat. We'll just sell off our risky debt."

(Just call me willy wonka, wonking it up.)

So what is a good FICO score and what is a bad FICO score? I just got mine from Equifax and just on the basis of a $0 balance negative report by deadbeat's lender, I'm sure it has dropped. Otherwise my credit is perfect. Not a single late payment reported.

(I probably should have just PM'ed this to balt, but if others know, feel free to respond).
The average FICO is 700. A score of 750-850 is an A credit; 700-749 is usually a B credit; 650-699 is C; and anything under a 650 is usually subprime. At least that's what I read recently on some website. I don't recall what site or I'd linky.

Darn.

The cute kid who sits next to me is leaving for Prague in a bit (without me, alas). I will need to find another distraction.

Any suggestions?

If they are federal loans and he can consolidate, your other option is to convince him to refinance the loans.

Courtney

LOS ANGELES – Courtney Love has been ordered to appear in court later this month to face an allegation that she violated her probation in an assault case by being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Superior Court Judge Rand S. Rubin issued a bench warrant for Love's arrest, but agreed to hold it pending the Aug. 19 hearing. During that hearing, a date will be set for another hearing to decide whether Love, 41, violated probation.

Rubin also said he wanted a report from Love's drug counselor.

She is definitely off the heroin but maybe compensating with other things.

So dna testing shows 4-10% of the kids being raised as some man's kids really aren't. I did a rough survey of the kids for the 25 more frequently posting males (excluding nfh) and, if everyone is telling the truth, 11 of them were raising the kids of some other poster. So once again we spike well above the average.

mazel tov! Atticus, my "son" turned 13

et tu Thurgreed? My sister can dunk.

st8. junior has six toes, right? Don't be surprised if you see SS in sandals some day.
  • One in 25 fathers 'not the daddy'

Up to one in 25 dads could unknowingly be raising another man's child, UK health researchers estimate.
Increasing use of genetic testing for medical and legal reasons means more couples are discovering the biological proof of who fathered the child.

The Liverpool John Moores University team reached its estimate based on research findings published between 1950 and 2004.
Since no one can tell if the picture is of me as a kid or of my kid, I really don't have that problem.

Credit scoring has way, way more to do with whether you've ever made even one late payment, even on a $21 credit card bill. The debt to income ratio is another thing that they take into account, but a credit report doesn't care about your income. It cares whether you pay your debts on time.

ETA I don't think you had that "old days are over" part in your post when I wrote this, and I don't think that they are necessarily over. It depends to some extent how recent the nonpayment is, but they still fuck you if you have recent late payments. Possibly it just results in you paying an extra percentage or so on your mortgage or car loan or whatever.
This is what goes into a credit score:

1. Were you ever more than 60 days late paying something? If so, how many times.

2. How much of your available credit are you using? If it's less than 20% you are great. If it's more than 80% you suck.

Unless both you have the same daddy.........*

B&B explaination: I do not mean to imply that Pony's dad had sex with Pony's wife. instead I imply that I (or some other man) am both Pony's father and Pony's son's father.
