There's a different director for Goblet of Fire. (I forget his name.) I liked it very much -- my only quibble is that it sort of seemed like flashes from the book instead of a coherent story. I suppose, however, that it's a failure to do the impossible: condense a book full of detail and clues into a two-hour movie.

I was a bit disappointed not to see more of Dumbledore, Trelawney and Snape; and the Trelawney prophesy seemed like an afterthought, which is odd given that it's rather a critical part of the story.

Nonetheless, I did enjoy it, and I thought the dementors were perfect.

Back in the late 80s, the Texas Department of Transportation came up with a brilliant anti-litter slogan: "Don't Mess With Texas."

They produced a lot of TV spots with famous Texans (Willie Nelson, Shamu the whale, Lyle Lovett, Matthew McConahottie, LeAnn Rimes, George Foreman) and Texan type things (longhorns, creatures from the black lagoon, cowboy poets) to promote the anti-litter message. The best one was the first one. Stevie Ray Vaughn, sitting on a stool, in front of a massive Texas flag, strumming The Eyes of Texas. (You can see it here). They've started a new campaign that departs from their old formula.

Over the years others have taken the slogan and millions of out of staters think that it's the official state motto, not the official state anti-littering campaign. The slogan is all over tee-shirts, coffee mugs, bumper stickers. It's always fun to watch someone with a Don't Mess with Texas bumper sticker throw his cigarette butt out his F150 window. I've been in foreign countries, where someone doesn't speak a word of English. They figure out that I'm from Texas and they'll say to me "Don't Mess With Texas." It's cute.

The Texas Department of Transportation has decided that enough is enough, and it wants its slogan back. They're sending out cease and desist letters to people using the slogan.

I'm thinking this is a barn door/horse situation.

I quit attending Dead shows after I watched two gentlemen in tie-dyed tank tops scream "Play Rollaway"** for two hours and then remark during space that they "wish [they had] brought the M-80s." That, and Jerry fell into the mic during a 45 min Stella Blue.

* Not to be confused with the "Jersey Gel Head" who never wears any headware and can be spotted at a distance by the Movado two-tone and horn of Italy neck pendant.

I've never seen a tie-dyed tank top. Actually, I can't remember the last time I saw a male IRL wearing one, unless of course, I'm at a road race and everyone is wearing those running singlets.

And yes, I know I look like a dork in it.

If she's marrying Marc Anthony, does that make Ben Affleck Julius Caeser? It's hard for me to keep the classics straight. If so, does this mean that Fenway Park is going to be sacked by Visigoths in a few years?

I thought I was up on the latest of these thingys, but maybe I've had my head in the sand. At dinner on Saturday, our out-of-town visitors mentioned that they had to be at the airport super early the next day because the terror alert had been raised to yellow (or whatever "dangerous" color we're at), because of the imminent threat to NY. Everyone seemed to know that there was a well-advertised plan to blow up a building in NYC sometime this summer.

I had read of "chatter" and whatnot about planned terror plots, but nothing as specific as this. What did I miss?

Minnesota sports Question:
The tigers manager, Alan Trammell and hitting coach Kirk Gibson are usually both pretty down to earth guys. Yesterday they were saying the Twins turned up the AC to blow in from left field in the 9th inning during the Tiger's last at-bat. A guy hit what would have been a game winner, but died at the warning track.

Have the Twins been accused of this before? Balt, could this actually influence the ball?
I would think if they had such a power they'd save it for something more important than a Tigers/Twins in June.
