You have castrated other associates on other nights, or even that associate on another night and some other associate on that night?

Cool.

This is a great fucking leaderboard

1 Shigeki Maruyama 66 48 13 -2 -6 114
1 Phil Mickelson 68 66 F -4 -6 134
3 Jeff Maggert 68 63 17 -3 -5 131
4 Ernie Els 70 35 10 -4 -4 105
4 Fred Funk 70 66 F -4 -4 136
4 Retief Goosen 70 66 F -4 -4 136
7 Angel Cabrera 66 71 F +1 -3 137
8 Jay Haas 66 52 13 +2 -2 118
8 Trevor Immelman 69 41 11 -1 -2 110
8 Corey Pavin 67 71 F +1 -2 138
8 Vijay Singh 68 70 F E -2 138
12 Mike Weir 69 70 F E -1 139

Aside from Cabrera and Immelman, these guys are all total studs or once were total studs (Haas, Pavin).

Ernie is looming very very very large sitting there, but the crowds will be squarely behind lefty. Still, I would not put it past Shigeki to put four rounds of 66 or 67 together and have a 5 stroke lead by the middle of Sunday. He certainly knows how to go low.

Right now the cut is just barely at +5, but if one more person falls to +6, then +6 becomes the cut. Cut will almost certainly be at 6. Tiger is moseying along at +3, missing a ton of fairways.

Tiger is pissing me off.

"I left Butch Harmon [his personal swing guru who made him the best golfer to walk the face of the earth for a few years] because there was nothing else he could teach me about my swing."

Bullshit. He can tell you when you're off by a centimeter. You're just too fucking pig-headed and selfish to (i) admit that someone else plays a large role in your success and (ii) let someone else (who is not a huge corporation paying you at least 7 figures annually) to profit off of your name. So, fuck you.

Here's what I hope happens: Phil, man-breasts and all, wins the Grand Slam or comes damn close. This will piss Tiger off so much that he will eat some of his unlimited pride and go back, hat in hand, to Butchy boy. Phil will have mucho confidence. Tiger will be refocused. And we'll have a new rivalry that will last us the next ten years.

Tiger's still my favorite golfer, but he's being a fucking asshole.

Wouldn't you know it, torrential downstorms hit around 1 AM last night.

Johnny Miller said something recently on the radio here - that Tiger (with "help" from Mark O'Meara) has been trying to remake his swing to hit a natural draw rather than fade, and Miller thought that was stupid, given how fast he swings. If he is, as you say, off by a centimeter, he blocks it right or duck hooks it. Miller also said that all the power hitters over the years have been faders. Hooking is for old men and others with easy, repetitive swings. I can't say he's wrong.

It is a nice leaderboard, with some great stories (Haas being 50, Phil for the Slam, Shigeki the Smiling Assasin, Singh the ass, Els and Funk are well-liked) and Sergio lurking at even in 13th place.

A new approach

The Croatians (or a Croatian) are taking a new approach to sports predictions, unlike say, Kobe Bryant, who guaranteed victory in game five of the finals. Ivan Klasnic guaranteed defeat ahead of the Croat game against England. I especially liked this optimistic comment: "I'm not banking on anything anymore, except that I will be going on holiday on Tuesday."

Notes from TCOTCOTU.

This is kind of cool. An artist collective called Glowlab has taken it upon itself to document the last gasp of one Manhattan city block before it is leveled for construction of the New Museum of Contemporary Art. It puts its ongoing work into an interactive "psychogeographic" map that includes photos, text, videos, audio recordings, etc. basically creating a drill-down documentary of the life of a place before it changes forever.

I'm no art critic, but to me it's sort of an eerie statement about 9/11 and the role of memory and place.

Can I leave yet?

Madonna has changed her name to Esther - http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Musi...eut/index.html - and a Czech condom company is giving away cards to measure one's length and girth - http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_992487.html . I'm sure Flinty is a Primate."
