More on cell phones and gas station fires.

Reconcile these two statements --- if you dare!
  • ''People should read the signs and not answer their cell phones. ... It is well-documented that it is dangerous to do that.''
  • It's the first case they've encountered of a cell phone's operation sparking a fire, the two town officials added.

Apparently, warning signs and forwarded urban legends now constitute documentation of a danger. Myself, I'm skeptical of how a cell phone by someone's ear found enough fuel-air mixture to ignite, without causing the user to pass out from the fumes.

I'm guessing your spelling complaint is going to be taken somewhat less than seriously.

I believe you mean her mispelling complaint.

This is true. But there isn't an actress in Hollywood who is fly enough for the role (aside from Halle, who (i) is black* and (ii) couldn't pull it off anyway). They shouldn't have put a face to the character.

* I imagine this wasn't a windfall of acting jobs for black people, but what epic films these days are? Matrix**? Gladiator? Star Wars?

** I take back Matrix which had a few roles thrown their way.

You clearly have never been to Florida, where Calvin urinates on all things Ford, or in the alternative, Chevrolet.

I've seen it, but I've always hoped I was missing something.

This joke is too easy. And I know this b/c I've made the "maybe she could launch five or possibly six ships" joke (and variations thereof) ad nauseum already.

And I'm not funny.
Agreed. You are not funny. Also, I concur on the joke being too easy. As is the "Helen of Troy, NY" bon mot. In fact, a Google search reveals that "Helen of Troy, NY" was actually a musical from the 1920s.

You might be irredeemable white trash if . . .

your 13-year-old daughter is sent home from her Catholic school's Graduation Picture Day because her dress showed too much cleavage, and you decide to call the local television news to plead your case. On your porch. With your daugher wearing the dress.

Best quotation: "There's cleavage, but when you're as big as Dannielle, there's going to be cleavage," Meyer said. "There's nothing I can do about that." It must really be something, to be powerless in the face of your daughter's massive decolletage.

Don't miss the video,* slideshow, and online poll. Let your voice be heard, America!

*If you're a TV news reporter, if you find yourself filming down a 13-year-old girl's dress as part of an exclusive story, please go home to a warm bath and open your veins. You've earned it!

Come on, Ty, on a pick-up truck? The radios on those have tuners that don't go below 91.9.

I disagree. There aren't any well-known actresses that are fly enough for the role. But there are many unbelievably beautiful women with lesser acting talent that they could have cast. I'll use Sophie Marceau in Braveheart (again) as an example.

My problem with her is that she doesn't look Greek or Turkish, which would have made it much more convincing. There are plenty of greek women who look like traditional greek goddesses (strong nose, olive complexion, curly dark hair, etc). This Helen is German.

I didn't think the dress showed all that much cleavage. Probably a less endowed chick would have been just fine per the school officials. Why make the poor girl feel bad about her body?

I'm actually quite surprised that Angelina was not cast as Helen. Up until recently I thought she had been.
