Headline on MSNBC

Keyes assails Osama on abortion policy

I don't see how OBL's stance on abortion is relevant.

And the Michigan GOP really does want Ralph Nader on the ballot because (as their head guy said), they favor a full and open debate on the issues of the day.

The "Keyes" to the election. Get it? [Chuckle, chuckle [snort]]

Thank you, THANK YOU, Illinois G.O.P. This is gonna be fun.

From WaPo:
  • Keyes, a conservative commentator, wasted little time Monday in attacking Obama, charging that his views on abortion are "the slaveholder's position."

Keyes said Obama's vote against a bill that would have outlawed a form of late-term abortion denied unborn children their equal rights. "I would still be picking cotton if the country's moral principles had not been shaped by the Declaration of Independence," Keyes said, according to the Associated Press. He said Obama "has broken and rejected those principles -- he has taken the slaveholder's position."

Obama suggested Keyes is outside the moderate mainstream of state Republicans.

Asked about the phrase "slaveholder's position," Obama said Keyes "should look to members of his own party to see if that's appropriate if he's going to use that kind of language," the AP reported.

Yeah. Like Hastert's gonna be excited to take his call.

Another Flip Flop

Quote:
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. (Reuters) - Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said on Monday he would have voted for the congressional resolution authorizing force against Iraq even if he had known then no weapons of mass destruction would be found.

Taking up a challenge from President Bush, whom he will face in the Nov. 2 election, the Massachusetts senator said: "I'll answer it directly. Yes, I would have voted for the authority. I believe it is the right authority for a president to have but I would have used that authority effectively."

This really seems to undercut the "Bush lied, people died" line, doesn't it?

You probably want to be paying attention to this. Keyes is giving you a sneak preview of the future ontogeny of the pro-life movement. With the growing realization that any philosophical position that is advanced in our society as the product of religious belief is self-limiting because it is advanced as the product of religious belief, the pro-lifers will now work to grow the next theme: The Fight For The Civil Rights Of Our Most Vulnerable. It's been easy so far for people to dismiss the religious justifications for the [b]pro-life[b] argument when they conflict with a perceived Right of women, but it's going to be tougher if this gets successfully re-cast as two competing Rights.

The [Dis]organized GOP

Poor strategic moves continue to plague the Republican Machine.

First the Machine's attempt to paint Kerry as a bloodthirsty Vietnam killer backfired, as it gave Kerry the opportunity to employ the "Commando" gambit below the radar, and gave Rove his fourth ulcer.

Sadly for Rove (though thankfully for Pepto Bismol stock), the Machine strikes again! This time, giving Edwards an opening.

From the Washington Times:
  • Sen. John Edwards has long criticized the Confederate flag as a "divisive symbol" that should not be flown on the Capitol grounds of Southern states.
But Mr. Edwards has family ties to the Confederacy, according to Brag Bowling, a member of the Virginia branch of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Researchers in his group have traced Mr. Edwards' ancestry back to three soldiers who served in the 34th and 15th Georgia infantries of the Confederate States Army.
According to the "amateur genealogists" -- who worked for a month to find the information -- Mr. Edwards' forefathers include Joseph H. Edwards and Charles G. Edwards of Company G of the 34th Infantry, and WiIliam Edwards of Company B of the 15th Infantry, which surrendered to Union troops at Appomattox, Va., on April 9, 1865.
The researchers traced Mr. Edwards' family through Franklin and Stephens counties, Georgia and Oconee County, S.C., from 1832 all the way up to 1953 -- and the birth of one Johnny Reid Edwards in 1953.
"Is it no wonder he is so despised in his own state for being both detached, liberal and anti-heritage?" asked one member of the group.
"I would only question their methods of genealogy," said another source familiar with Confederate heritage. "Edwards is a common name."

A strike against Edwards? Wrong-o. Current Edwards supporters aren't gonna give a shit about an alleged Confederate past. Hell, my parents always warned me to stay away from genealogy, because of the risk of unearthing both criminal legacies and longstanding debts.

No, sir. This here is pure gold for the Kerrry/Edwards campaign down south.

On Southern AM radio: Kerry? Vietnam baby-killer commando. Edwards? Son of a Rebel.

Rove's gonna have to pull out the big guns now. Maybe he can find some swiftboat veterans to talk to.

Are you meaning to say "pro-life" rather than "pro-choice"?

Using the antonym of what you actually mean to say kind of undercuts your argument and makes you look like an idiot.

Who knows? After viewing the combination of "Keyes," "movement" and "paying attention" in the same paragraph, I was completely lost.

Now I'm thinking it would be difficult not to pay attention if I were shitting keys. Unless they were very very tiny, like the key to the diary I had when I was 10.
