Bose Sound Dock

Thanks for the info. Santa brought me an iPod for Festivus and I was just surfing the Bose website for info on the Sound Dock. Looks like I'll be making a trip to the Bose store at the outlet mall this weekend.

Further question

I also received an Ipod from Santa for gwifgwif. The headphones are crap. However, the Sony headphones that I used on my portable CD sound harsh and screechy on the Ipod. Must be a bizarre equalization thingy with the Ipod. Anyone find a decent portable headphone to go on this thing? I have some nice Sennheisers at home, but this is for dragging around on the Bart and on the plane.

Oh, and by the way, the airport at Phoenix is still crap. Weather in Phoenix and Chicago caused me to sit in the airport (and drain the Ipod) for 4 hours last night. Only Green Day made it better.

Have you tried playing with the EQ settings on the iPod?

Pick up the next penny you see on the street instead of waiting for this dog to pay out. Better return.

Do. I love it. Sound is great and you can easily move it from room to room, it's the perfect iPod accessory.

You mean I have to read the manual?

Huh. The genius (or whatever they call their hipster, slacker sales force) at the Apple Store I visited while taking a deposition out of town in November called the Bose dock "an over-priced piece of crap," and told me that the cheaper, smaller JBL circlular docking thingy produced a far better sound. So Santa bought the JBL for the Not Bobette, and she loves it.

What manual? Scroll down to settings-->EQ, and choose from about 20. I found that bass booster raised the bass on the stock headphones to an acceptable (i.e., almost normal) level.

Cool. Maybe I can use my old Sonys, but I still want better headphones. The old Sonys are almost toast and barely stay on anymore. And I hate earbuds. They're irritating as hell, but at least the Sony earbuds were small enough to fit and not fall out. Apple's earbuds are too big for me. Any suggestions?

I saw the JBL circular docking thingy on Amazon, but there were no reviews. No reviews at cnet either.

Great reviews and discussion here.

The universal slam on Bose was that someone, somewhere, does what they do better and does it for less.* But I'm not sure this is necessarily a reason not to buy Bose --- it's like someone telling you not the buy the BMW, because in a room of ten people, five say "BMW," one says "Audi," another "Benz," the third "Porsche," the fourth "Jag," and the last "Lincoln Continental." Sure, you could buy the Audi and pay less for a qualitatively better product, but do you really want to live with the uncertainty of casting your fate to the five people who don't agree on exactly which product is superior and better priced?

The only Bose product I own are the QuietComfort II 'phones. Someone on this board will tell me I could have paid less for something that cost $75 to $100 less that does the same job, but the brand premium I paid does not feel like wasted money to me.

*Note: Not Does It for Less. That's the other board.

We have the Altec Lansing model. Sounds good and was one of the few that would dock both my mini and Mr Man's regular ipod when we were looking (but for the record, Atticus, I have an Audi; and I do own a Bose product or two, including the stereo in my Audi). that is all.

After checking out the iPod lounge, I'm going to the Apple store this weekend for some comparison shopping. They raved about the JBL Creatures but I live in a really small condo and would prefer a 1 piece unit rather than 3 pieces.

Any comments on Macalley products? I was looking at car chargers. Their's was half the price of the Belkin. For the record, said car charger would be used in my Jeep, but I would love an Audi.

I was also looking at the ALtec, which the Apple genius said was also better than the Bose. He asked if the Not Bobette listened to hip-hop, and when I said that she did, he told me to get the JBL because its "bottom-end" was better. The "top-end" on the Altec is better than the JBL, said the genius.

So, I guess it depends on whether you are a breast or ass/legs fan.
