I will be shocked if there is an amendment to undo this decision. Basically, polling runs 2:1 in favor of gay marriage in Massachusetts, and there are very few strong opponents of it.
Heard on the news this morning that 48% are in favor of the amendment. Not sure what the percentage requirement is, and don't really have a strong interest in the result, so those are just the facts as I understand them.

Globe ran a poll about a week after the first decision.

But you can sense it around here. When the decision is talked about, very few people say anything negative and when they do, most people just smile and humor them.
this makes sense just from a survival instinct. Remember, in Mass. heterosexual dating with prominent males often ends up with the lady being drowned.

Read this about the Boston Globe poll you are talking about :

http://www.massnews.com/2003_Edition...blematic.shtml

"Globe Ombudsman Admits 'Poll' on Gay Marriage Was 'Problematic'

But They Won't Do Anything about It"

All the "non-problematic" polls I read show it as an almost 50:50 split in MA. You are far overstating the support for gay marriage in MA.

That is more in-line with the polls I have seen.

GGG is quoting a discredited poll conducted by a liberal rag. See link in my post above.

Interesting. national coverage would lead one to believe otherwise.

Humorous little website you cited to. So the poll was inaccurate because the question asked was one of many? Or because your rag didn't like the wording?

But, as I've said before, polls have their uses and those uses are limited. I would say that sentiment in even the more conservative and Catholic areas around here is not in favor of an amendment - with many people just not caring. Stay tuned and see what the election results look like, after all the sermonizing happens.

I have no doubt national sentiment is opposed. Also no doubt that you will hear some political heavyweights around here speaking out against it, particularly Romney but several on the Democratic side (including Kerry). But those voices are intended for a different audience.

But yet you use the results of this one problematic poll to boldy proclaim "[g]ay marriage is now a done deal."

He didn't say national sentiment. He said national coverage.

The local coverage by the Boston Globe and other liberal media establishments in MA* slant the issue to make it look like there is more support than there is. You have to go to the national news sources to be able to get less biased information about what is going on in MA.

* Are there any other kind in Taxachusettes?

Agreed. Now whether he should have been transported at taxpayer's expense to a duck hunting trip, though, is a different issue.

Apparently you didn't click on the link or didn't bother to read the article. This was just one of the problems with the BG poll

Quote:
"Is it true that the question on same sex marriage in a poll reported on in yesterday's Globe asked respondents whether they thought gay marriage should or should not be 'legally sanctioned'? If those words were used, then the phrasing of the poll question should have been reported as well to give Globe readers what I believe is necessary information about the poll's reliability.

"Using a word with two opposing meanings -- to sanction can mean to punish -- it could very well be that a majority of respondents would go so far as to support the punishment of same-sex unions, hardly a result in favor of same-sex marriage.

Mr. Kerry: If your daughter wanted to marry another woman, would you support her right to do so?
