Adult Album Alternative -- basically, your singer-songwriter folkie type dudes/chicks with guitars list. Selling 20 records in a week probably gets you on the AAA Hot One Hundred.

Having never heard of this chart, I decided to look it up online so that I could sneer contemptuously at the watered-down pop drivel that passes for music these days, and start my day feeling generally smug and superior. Or, to be more accurate, start my day feeling even more smug and superior than I already did. So, I do a little googling and find this site -

http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa/zeitge...p_adultalt.asp

- which purports to list the top ten AAA albums.

One of which I own.

What I find odd is the no. 8 of the top 100 indies is the music from Halo 2. http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa/zeitge...amazonsafe.asp

There is solid quality in the art developed for games, so I'm not surprised that the content might be quite popular- remember Callum Greyshaw cribbed a GTA radio rant and half these idiots thought it the best PB post EVER.

What is wierd is that these geeks who play Halo 2 7 or 8 hours a day would need to purchase the soundtrack to have access for the few hours they're not glued to the terminal. These boys need some variety.

Jesus fuck, Hank, you're right. Check out some of the Amazon customer reviews:

"'Follow' by Incubus is one song that I repeat all the time... in fact, it was that song that pushed me over the edge and made
me buy the soundtrack. Hearing it in-game was a blast."

"The Incubus songs were okay. I don't listen to Incubus because I don't like how they sound, but the songs on this soundtrack tried to get the Halo feel going. Some parts of those songs work, other parts don't."

"Over half of the soundtrack is good, so I guess it's worth it. I just hope that volume 2 has more actual game music."

"I became interested in Halo when I heard my son and his father playing the game. I was so drawn in by the music that I learned to play, and since have become an enthusiast."

Is this the game that had fucking pasty-skinned, glaze-eyed geeks lining up at midnight outside stores to pick it up on its release date?

I'm going to stop here before I get all Bilmore and shit.

That list is a made-up figment of some wackjob's* imagination. Try this one, it might make you feel better:

Radio & Records 2004 AAA singles chart

Feel free to mock Cities 97 listeners on your way to work tomorrow if the above doesn't lift you out of your funk.

Cheers.

* Come on, Lil' John and Olivia Newton-John on the same chart?

Query: Is there a laminated-list like construct for people you'd happily bang if given the opportunity on a silver plate, but for whom you wouldn't do thing one to create that opportunity?

If such a thing exists, SarahMcLachlan is at the top of my list.

Impossible. But you could have gone with, "Damn. Who the fuck are you? And why aren't we getting off on the same floor?" That's a start, at least.

Thanks, I feel better. I only have one album on that entire top 100 list. I will treat to a sushi dinner (not homemade) anyone who can guess which CD on the above list AND which CD on the Amazon top ten adult alternative I own.

Hint 1: Not the same CD
Hint 2: Not Sarah McLachlan

While NFH Was Sleeping (a film by John Waters)

According to CNN, the No. 1 search item on eBay in 2004 wasn't "iPod." In fact it was "RV," short for recreational vehicle

Geezers are getting computer-savvy.

And here's your near board motto:

Quote:
But perhaps the most disconcerting conclusion drawn from eBay's statistics, the report said, was that people appear to be getting weirder.
