When I dined with Wonk, al fresco, he didn't try to use his philia on me, but then again the first thing I did upon meeting was to order wine, so I guess maybe instinct kicked in to protect me.....

I have railed against the teachers union on this board for years, so I have no bone to pick with you there. For the most part, I think the CA republicans are a a joke (as are the Dems). There are a few example of principled pols (McClintock comes to mind), but for the most part I don't trust any of them.

Let me just get this straight -- the teachers unions are "a joke" because they protect their self-interest when it comes to education policy, but it's not "a joke" when, e.g., someone affluent votes against paying for more taxes to improve education?

Thank god. Sweet dreams.
Now, that Ty is gone, time for some serious debate.
Is there any reason we shouldn't view Christian Conservatives as no different from Islamist?

correct. Teachers should have a professional ethic, i.e. the educational welfare of the children, which they put above their immediate personal considerations, while an individual does not have a professional ethic as a taxpayer. Of course, its a misnomer, perpetuated by the teacher's unions, to call teachers professionals.

Not so fast, I am still here.
Simple answer, teh difference is that Christian Conservatives worship the real G-d, the creator of all things, while the Islamics worship a fictional falsely idle demon conjured up by the warped psyche of an indisputably drunken pedophile.
