Not to mention the added costs those prisoners have to incur for soap on a rope. That stuff ain't just your .59/bar Dial.

See, I think this is torture:
  • According to CIA sources, he was water-boarded, a technique in which a captive's face is covered with a towel as water is poured atop, creating the sensation of drowning. He was beaten, though not in a way to worsen his injuries. He was repeatedly threatened, and made certain of his impending death. His medication was withheld. He was bombarded with deafening, continuous noise and harsh lights. He was a man already diminished by serious injuries, more fully at the mercy of interrogators than an ordinary prisoner.

That's from page 115 of Suskind's book.

If that's not torture, what is, in your view?
Kid's stuff. I have done races that were more tortuous. These Islamofacists are a bunch of pansies.

If it takes tortue to get some of the scum fucks to talk I would be pissed off if we didn't.
Then was the picture of someone diving out of the tower merely to satisfy your bloodlust?

i was trying to remind everyone of tortue Ty's tortue was trying to prevent. and also remind people how Diane's 1st amendments right were trampled for posting something not nearly as offensive as what Ty had posted.

Is your reference point the people being tortured or the WTC victims? I ask because I am trying to understand if Hanks's point was to make a joke about the WTC victims or to simply exploit that tragedy for shock value. Did you understand the juxtaposition better than I? Can you offer any insight?

Hey, if they weren't guilty, they wouldn't be in jail.

Film of people jumping out of the WTC should be shown on TV everynight- every station- every commercial break. That's reality TV.

How was his quoting a description of a CIA sanctioned tactic more offensive than a picture of someone flying out of the World Trade Center?

And I guess I'm asking this as someone else whose First Amendment rights were arguably trampled.

So then it is the latter -- exploitation of the tragedy for shock value that you were engaged in. Okay. Having established that, can I then assume that the purpose of this exploitation is to keep people here sufficiently outraged that they are willing to scapegoat suspected terrorists and to deprice tehm of human dignity?

Just so my point gets made, because I made it already, but not in response to the question: The value of seeing people jumping out of the WTC far outweighs any offense it may carry. This is our reality. If we tortue some jihadi and prevent even one plot that had a 10% chance of suceeding we better fucking do that- everyone needs to be reminded of that, every day.

2. The censourship was beyond the pale. I also dissented from the censourship of Wonk's death wish on the President. He should have been allowed to memouralise that expression. At least for the authorities' review....

I thought his point was clear.

If "waterboarding" a terrorist for information is called "torture" - then what would you call being forced to jump from a 120 story building because of a 400 degree fire.

Dissent. And if you are going to quote Ed Meese, you should properly attribute it.

2. I hope Ty takes you off ignore for this series of posts. Not only are you kicking the lefties' arses but you are making the point that the Islamofacists' appeasers need to be reminded of on an hourly basis.
