It takes a lot to read this board, and I don't have the time right now to do the necessary background research to refute or accept any arguments pro or con anything in particular.
Plus, a lot of the stuff that ya'll have been talking about, I don't really think deserves comment or I don't have an opinion on. I will say I went to an art opening tonight that had a piece that was based on a photo that you posted today. A lot of thought and care went into that piece and it made me think a lot more than your photo did.
As for the torture issue, I'm on fairly good terms with someone who an interrogator for the US Army and strongly, strongly, strongly feels that torture does not work and is in fact counter-productive. Oh, and he has moral and ethical problems with it too. I'm sure ya'll can find someone in the same capacity who is all for it, and i'm sure a lively debate could happen. ( ginmar was also an interrogator for the US Army in Iraq, who isn't too keen on torture, but I think she's out now. She mainly rants about feminism now and talks about her cats. Ya'll may not like her.)
Anyhow, I ebb and flow with this board. Sometimes I post here quite frequently, but right now, I doubt any of ya'll could give a rat's ass about whether Ellen Cohen can beat Martha Wong in the state representative race in my district or whether Jim Henley has a snowball's chance in hell against John Culberson. Those are the political issues I care about right now, and I'll probably continue in that vein until November.
As for Kinky, why the hell not? (aside from the lunatic factor.....)

As the inventor of the predecessor in interest to this board and the oldest old skool member here (and formerly OBE), as well as a frequent contributor to the DU and formerly a frequent contributor to the old forums (which got shut down) on www.Hillary.org, I believe that I am preeminently and uniquely qualified to speak to the issues at issue. Hand. Presented here tonight.
I think a lot of good points have been made, all of which I agree with and alternatively dissent from, except those which are just stupid, res ipsa etc et al. I will specifically disavow the Ted Williams imagery, as I think that is obscene and at best a red herring or a lemming or some such lower tier creature not even worthy of Thurgreed's palatte. That said, I also think that Wonk's invocation of an obscenity standard is offensive at best and worse, really offensive, especially in light of his first amendment troubles on this board, which I won't recite, but suffice to say, occured.
At this point I think we have two options:
1. Grind the board to a halt, and I have already PM'd RT about the possibilities for unilateral retroactive deletion; or
2. Agree to move forward with the former status quo and a hope for the children and the future.
Those said, in a nod towards more history as a consensus builder and gap bridger, I vote 2 and as such and in a move of unity and healing, have removed Ty, SexHarrassingBear, Blue Triangle, SS and Sidd from my ignore list.
The branch of peace is thrust forward....what will be interesting is if those who would give Arafat the benefit of the doubt will now extend the same to a fellow communitarian. And also Hank.
The world is watching......

Inspired by your magnaminity, I hereby pledge to remove you and Hank from any ignore lists (easy enough - you weren't on any). Done.
I also pledge to not respond to any more text messages from underage daughters of board members, even though they be hotties.

Well done Sexed Crazed Pandabear. With that post you bridged a gap that none other of your ilk has yet unqualifiedly done. I think we have made real progress here tonite.
A point I would like to note, Fringe's exit, in contrast to your gesture of hope and magnaminitude, represents the worst of the petulant politically correct censourshipsorialiness of the left. Rather than partipating in a bazaar of ideas and seeking to understand and enlighten her intellectual superiors on the right, her response is, "if you don't post in a way I think is acceptable, I am leaving". Ty and Wonk et al also exhibit a lesser infected strain of this mutant virii of speechdeadeningism, but there is hope for them yet, I pray. As for those who hate ideas, I say good riddance, we need more SexuallyenergisedBares.

For Hank
FWIW, I've not posted here much lately because I've been too busy to do much of that, or I read what I see here and find I don't have much to add or respond to.
I agree with much of what Slave says about what ails the board. It's not as much fun as it used to be, but there are lots of reasons why that's so. The one thing that I think is pretty unique about this place, that keeps me coming back, is that this is a largely a smart, erudite group that can articulate a cogent thought on a message board, has a sense of humor, and can be creative.
There's something to be said for finding a group of posters that can actually do those things with regularity. Seems that most internet posters, far as I can tell, are either boring, stupid, or incapable of communicating a thought in a written post if their lives depended on it.
Because you mentioned Ty in particular, I like what he writes here and don't think he should go anywhere. Nor (for example) should Slave, though I can't really think of anything on which he and I agree. I enjoy kidding around with people who have a different opinion on things, and I appreciate the well-crafted remarks that're often written on these boards.
That said, as Slave put it, sometimes it does get tired here -- there just doesn't seem to be a better word for it. When the drums get to beating, and pulses start racing, and the eyes roll back, and I'm reading post after post of MichaelMooreIslamofascistABCdocumentaryBabyJesusSandyBurglar shit -- well, there was probably a time when I'd have found it interesting or outrageous or creative or something. And I suppose y'all are reveling in being intentionally not serious, or however you choose to characterize it. But after you see it enough, it just becomes noise.
But eventually it'll subside, or I'll get bored, or something different will happen out there in the world that will change the subject for a while, and I'll come back.
Peace out.
Gattigap

Stop your belly aching
I think you are all involved in navel gazing. I like the board just the way it is. Sorry if that offends anyone but I find this place fun when I have the time. And don't tell me about the good old days. That is just selective memory. There is one way to tell if the board sucks and that is if people stop posting. People are still posting so what is the problem?
My opinion is if it ain't broke don't fix it. Plus we have all these fun little smileys to play with.
 :violin:  :band:

Go back and read those again. Weren't they all posted by one guy?
Whatever. I didn't expect Ty to leave. I didn't expect anyone to second what I said. But I do hope you all think about my points.
Short of Ty leaving, the second best solution would be for those on the left to challenge shit he says, not accept it as Gospel.
I personally stopped Penske from posting all the baby Jesus shit. I don't "ditto" his every point.

I actually took you off ignore yesterday. I would think the fact that I started responding to your posts after weeks of not doing so would have tipped you off.
Whatever. You do your thing and I'll do my thing.
