Dread Pirate Jihadists
In 1806, Congress passed laws allowing Jefferson to use military tribunals on the Barbary pirates. This law was upheld in 1942 by the Supreme Court, so if terorists are pirates, Congress can use military tribunals to try them. If the Supreme Court says otherwise, as Andrew Jackson said, "John Marshall has made his decision; let him enforce it now if he can." Editorial Number 1 Editorial Number 2
The Geneva Convention does not apply to persons that don't represent a nation, so terrorists and pirates can't claim protection under it.

This is cool. I can just declare myself as having proved a point, without having done so, and suddenly, I get to claim to be smarter than everybody who doesn't agree with me. I need to try this.
Thanks, Hank!!!!
BTW, I offered not one, but two proofs that torture, or for that matter simple coercion, don't guarantee results.

with all the personal attacks I've had to endure here from the Tys and Sams, I had almost quit this board. I did come back though because you and SS and Panda all seemed like you were interested in discussing issues instead of singling out those who beat you in arguments. Now even you must stoop to blind hate attacks? If you just ask me to stop posting here I will. you don't have to create hate to drive off alternative views.

I have several reasons why you're wrong on this, but I have to keep it secret. You'll just have to trust me on this.
I think it's because they are unable to admit they made a mistake in doing this. They - and especially bush - are pathologically unable to admit they ever made a mistake on anything. bush thinks he's God's anointed, so how could he do anything wrong?

If you had honored my request then i might listen to yours. of course you would have to ask by email, but still, I would take it more seriously.

Maybe you could find a more recent source, perhaps one that is even post-Cold War. Also, that summary says nothing about the veracity of the information obtained which, in the end, is what it's all about. So it makes the detainee anxious - nobody disputes that.

No where. But rights don't figure into the equation. Obviously you want them to use techniques that work, otherwise what is the point.

In SS's book the guy said one interrogation technique was to bring in a person that spoke arabic and was in a persian gulf state uniform (Saudi, Kuwait, etc). The detainees knew that gulf states militarys used torture and got worried that they would be turned over to these guys. According to the reviews of the books this was on of the most effective techniques for obtaining information: threat of torture.
