Always true of moderates in primaries, from both parties. That's why running unopposed in primaries creates a huge advantage.

Thank you John Kerry. He has done more for the Republicans in this election than anyone else. If I were a Democrat I would want this guy drawn and quartered.

You've got a day when there is hopeful news on the diplomatic front on North Korea and you guys are focused on this, another deny/distract/distort effort against a guy whose not even on the ballot?

Yes, Bush & Company should have gone to school before going to Iraq. Everything that is happening there was indeed predicted, but they wanted to prove their neocon fantasies. As seen from the discussion of the last few days, Bush's number one domestic priority of education got short shrift even with control of both houses because he was too busy calling the Dems terrorists to distract attention from the total ineptitude of his administration in Iraq.

Don't you guys have something positive to add, or is this all about sending out Rove's pit bulls? Don't you have a record to run on or something?

The D's sure dropped Foley more quickly once he went off the ballot.

BTW, what's a guy not on the ballot doing campaigning?

Hello? There's an election only two years away.

I think you meant to quote G^3.

I thought you were referring to Kerry's campaigning, and I was pointing out that he's running for President.

If you're bored in the Senate and you're not much of a Senator, it keeps you off the streets.

But about the faux outrage over Kerry's comments yesterday, it's clear that the Rove playbook now includes drumming up controversy about a purported gaffe in the final days of a campaign. He did it in '04 with Kerry's comments about Mary Cheney in the last debate, and he's done it again. Rove is a big believer in the appearance of momentum at the end -- witness his flying Bush to California instead of Florida in the last days in '00 -- and this is a way to try to put the other side on the defensive.

But I'm glad to have him focusing everyone on Iraq.

I thought greedy said he wasn't on the ballot, so attention shouldn't be focused on him.

I suspect John Kerry feels otherwise.

I have no problem with that either. IF he wants to argue the war is bad because it requires stupid people to serve, he's free to make that pitch.

His argument was it requires stupid people in the White House to end up in Iraq.

I was pointing out that with 6 years of governing behind them, the Rs are choosing, of their own accord, to make the issue not their record or accomplishments but a remark by a past opponent who is not on the ballot.

Does Bush have anything to say about what he's done the last six years? Does Hastert? Or is this what you guys think the election should focus on?

Do you have even 1% belief that that was what he meant?

It was a particularly stupid thing to say. I hope it has minimal impact.
