If you are a woman, you can gauge it by the amount and quality of attention you get from men who you don't know personally. If decent looking (as well as ugly) men who you don't know go out of their way to make eye contact with you and try to talk to you at the grocery store over the stupidest things just to get your attention and men are always commenting positively on your looks, you are attractive. If only the bald, fat ones look at you, you are not attractive.

It isn't so easy for men since women tend to be more focused on whether the man appears to be financially well off than on his physical attractiveness.

You don't have to be a model with gravity defying tits to get alot of male attention. Cute face and in shape body will do it. Good hair is a plus, too.
